It’s a bit of like unmatched cogs put together in a kind of olden style clock you know that goes, like, cuckoo every six hours or seven hours, you never know. TYLER CODY, STUDENT: My family life is very dysfunctional.

NIGEL KENNEDY, STUDENT: A lot of people that come to this school come from disadvantaged background, you know, like fathers that have been in jail and mothers that don’t care about them. That hadn’t happened for three generations, it wasn’t likely to start now. A lot of children they were not expecting that they were going to have some kind of a miracle happen in their family where somebody was going to get a good education and get a job. JANN EASON, FOUNDING PRINCIPAL: When we first opened the doors we were only targeting children that were not succeeding in the traditional education system. He’s running a school that’s known as the last chance for kids with nowhere else to go and his novel approach is giving these young people the chance to dream of a future. But it’s at his day job in the NSW town of Kempsey where he’s really turning lives around.
